Be advised: Region 8 EPA inspectors making unannounced site visits
CGRS has heard from multiple customers that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) inspectors are making unannounced site visits to fuel facilities in Region 8, which includes Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and 28 Tribal Nations.
The visits are seemingly focused on aboveground storage tank (AST) bulk facilities, but that doesn’t mean that inspectors won’t show up at oil and gas and other sites in the region.
CGRS advises owners/operators to make sure their facilities comply with all applicable regulations including current Spill Control, Countermeasure and Prevention (SPCC) plans; Steel Tank Institute (STI) SP001 inspections; have adequate fencing, diking and lighting; and that their sites are clean and presentable with no visible leaks, fuel stains, diesel residue on islands, etc.
Owners/operators not in compliance with regulations could face substantial repercussions in the way of citations and fines detrimental to their businesses.
