Drone Team in Houston for Hurricane Harvey Recovery Effort

CGRS has been using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for a variety of services for a couple of years now. Recently we were given an opportunity to utilize our expertise and technology to assist in a cause far greater than the ordinary, by putting our drone to work for the people of Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Through a direct request from the Red Cross and local relief organizations, CGRS teamed up with Vigilant Aerospace and a host of other drone companies to volunteer aid for the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Our very own Mark Blacklin, a 107 certified pilot, was hand chosen, along with a small group of expert pilots from around the country, to fly the CGRS drone in Texas to collect vital disaster assessment information, only accessible through the use of a drone. Note that this project was conducted with FAA authorization. The data was used by the City of Houston, City of Port Arthur Emergency Operations Center, the National Guard and the Aransas County Assessor’s office to assess the level of damage caused by the hurricane and to plan relief efforts accordingly.

Mark Blacklin, Data Integration Supervisor, leads our UAV/Drone Team and ensures clients receive accurate data in a timely fashion. Find more information about CGRS UAV services here.
